The road out to #Whatipu always freaks me out, even as a passenger. A narrow gravel road, lots of blind corners and in some places a sheer drop on one side. It's all fine until you meet a car going the other direction and both have to squeeze over so one of you can get past.

Last night #ProjectJonah received a call from a member of the public about stranded whale on #Whatipū Beach, in West #Auckland.
The senior rescue team and a local medic were mobilised. As this is quite a remote part of Tāmaki Makaurau, members of the public were given instructions on how to keep the small whale cool and comfortable.

This week, I had the chance to see a little blue #penguin as I was hiking between #karekare beach and #whatipu beach. I felt really lucky to experience this great encounter! 🐧 This little fellow seemed to struggle with the big waves, so I hope it is doing well!

Last weekend some friends and I walked the #Omanawanui track out at #Whatipu. The views were glorious!
There are a lot of stairs to climb and a small rocky section to clamber over. Most of the track is exposed with only a short section having tree coverage.
Be aware the road out there is... interesting... Gravel, windy, barely fits two cars in some spots, no barriers with shear drops.
