Myanmar’s armed forces have used an apparently domestically produced cluster bomb in attacks in several parts of the country since 2021, including as recently as yesterday, 31 August 2023.

2 Jul 23: Myanmar workers in Thailand staged a protest outside the United Nations building in #Bangkok to demand an end to Min Aung Hliang junta rule in Myanmar, the release of all political prisoners, progress towards the ASEAN 5-point consensus, and recognition of the pro-democracy National Unity Government of Myanmar (NUG) and the People's Defense Force (PDF).

As the 3rd of July is Min Aung Hliang's birthday, this pro-democracy group took the opportunity to hurl insults and death wishes at the junta leader who took power in a coup d'etat in 2021 and met the people's resistance with mass incarceration, air strikes, tortures, hangings, and military operations.

Regarding the change of government in Thailand, a representative of the protesters gave an interview with the press that a pro-democracy government in Thailand would help greatly with the situation in Myanmar.

On the Thai caretaker government's recent attempt to reengage with the Myanmar junta, he commented that noone wanted this to happen. The meeting in Bangkok initiated by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs was condemned by numerous human rights organizations and rejected by most ASEAN governments for ignoring the consensus.

"Prayuth's dignity took a hit for sure. But he's probably used to it already."

"Min Aung Hliang and his cronies must face justice," reads the English statement from the assembly today in Bangkok.
