What's the difference between an under-oxidized sun dried Yunnan Black tea from material usually sold for raw puerh and an over-oxidized Yunnan white tea made from material usually sold for raw Puerh? Sunskate from White2Tea answers one part of the question, it is an under oxidized Yunnan black tea. The idea being, it might be a good candidate for interesting things happening with age. The week of random shou minis is drawing to a close with 2020 "prosbloom" from White2Tea. Tip for gong fu brewing tightly compressed minis: rinse them a couple times in the pot (or gaiwan) with water at the appropriate temp, put the lid on the pot, and let them steam closed for 5-10 minutes. Then come back and restart your brewing.

For many years, White2Tea refused to use the term "gushu" to describe any of their teas, especially puerh. In typical White2Tea fashion when they finally released teas they described with the word "gushu", they still weren't puerh, but a wild Yunnan tea processed as white and red tea. "ye sheng gushu hong cha" is the red/black version. With a bitterness level on par with grapefruit or amaro, a unique scent reminiscent of dried chiles, and a somewhat savory/medicinal flavor, it's definitely not a "crowd pleaser". However, those of us that do like it, really like it.

2016 Mengku Naked Dragonball from White2Tea. Since I've been drinking raw puerh teas that are about the same age, but stored in "wetter/hotter" places like Taiwan and Guangzhou, it is interesting to try this tea. The soft vibrant character of the tea is out front with just a hint of storage character lurking in the background. It does have good length of flavor, on the palate and in the cup, and a pleasant energy.

Every spring (March-ish) White2Tea negotiates a limited buy of pre-qingming green teas from Sichuan and Guizhou. One of the more interesting of the bunch is "Book Cover Green". It is a blend of "...less picturesque leaves picked out from several productions from a single producer in Sichuan." A great opportunity to drink early spring bud only high end teas at a reasonable price.
