Two masters of Dublin Maternity hospitals have criticised the new Slaintecare contract which will phase out the use of public hospitals being used for private care. There are no private maternity hospitals.

Fergal Malone, current master at the Rotuna, described the proposed change as “chilling”, and Shane Higgins, master at the NMH said, "This is about the right of women to choose their healthcare,”.

Private maternity care can cost €5000.
