@dwmetz HomeKit has always been a pain for me to mix in with all the other stuff. I too am going the #eero route but have everything running through four primary solutions. Amazon #Alexa for voice automation, Philips #Hue for lighting, #SmartLife/#Tuya for home automation, additional security and lighting, and #Nest for HVAC. Alexa does a great job of bringing it all together in one decent interface which is also one of the reasons why I’m going with eero for the new mesh network with #wifi6e.

My 2.4GHz #WLAN is reserved for all the straggler devices I use for #HomeAutomation. They just need a decent signal since they don’t pass much data. Everything else is on 5GHz or wired.

@baweaver @GenghisKen I started this series and am awaiting the new equipment now. Should have some good results to share as I make progress:
I’ve already done a ton of cost and capability comparisons between many different #WiFi6E capable APs. I narrowed it down to two.
My first preference would be to go with the new NETGEAR Orbi Mesh Wi-Fi 6E System - AXE11000-3 but dang! That sucker is expensive! Even with discounts I’m still at about $1300.
So, I chose Amazon’s eero Pro 6E mesh system. It’s very close to the NETGEAR offering and with Prime, less than $500. It also works with Zigbee devices if I want to put them back into play.
In the basement, I have enabled the built in AP on the fiber gateway. Those two APs cover the entire house and a little way into the backyard but it’s time for an upgrade and more throughout to all the devices and that’s why I’m looking to #WiFi6E. Not only will I be able to provide a more consistently strong signal throughout the entire house, but I’ll also be able to provide mesh backbone connectivity with zero interference to the devices or the APs and that’s the differentiator.
As a technology geek of 3+ decades, previous #wifi engineer and now solution engineer, I feel like now is the time to embrace #WiFi6E. I will chronicle this project here.
To start, let me tell you a bit about the current setup. I was pretty heavy into Zigbee/Z-Wave solutions but when my primary gateway provider decided to change to an annual subscription plan, that’s when I moved all my home automation devices to Wi-Fi.
