Look who's been quietly prowling the wilds of Tasmania—Parvotettix fortescuensis, a cave cricket resembling a tiny tiger with its striking orange stripes. This elusive 🦗 was recently observed on iNaturalist for the first time! #wildoz #entomology 🐅

A warm sunny day at Jenolan. This rock wallaby is my mood right now. Video taken on iPhone with binoculars #WildOz
Went for a wander, found a possum having a nap.
Not too easy to get a good angle on it though.

After filming bats emerging from their cave, we walked around the campsite with a thermal camera to find critters in the dark. Here is a wally with a toasty hear of 26.2 °C when the environment is 2 °C #wildoz
Saw these two Tawny Frogmouths hiding in plain sight in a tree directly above a stallholder's gazebo at the Noosa Farmer's Market a while back. Seemingly completely unperturbed by all the comings & going below them...

Devil alert! When I checked this camera on Thursday, my dog decided it was a good spot to poo. I removed the 💩 but next morning had this video of a devil over-marking the same spot 😈

Recently, I've been lucky enough to undertake pitfall surveys in central WA with the profound @TimDoherty_. Here's a few of the small mammals we surveyed for your viewing pleasure.

Incredible week of surveys for the elusive Mountain Skink (Liopholis montana) in extremely remote parts of the Snowy Mountains and Bimberi Wilderness. Lots of sun and lots of skinks!
Big thanks to Zak at Snowline Ecology for having me out as part of the alpine herp team #wildoz https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1650459197316935681

On our post-sunrise walk this morning the dog ignores the 'roo and the 'roo, though used to us, stays alert - the latter's not worried enough, though, to hop away even though she has a small joey in her pouch.
Skye, our long-haired #borderCollie, has seen enough kangaroos in her day, she's 12, to not be at all interested in them (or, at least, not most of the time).

As promised, better quality photos of the Swamp Wallabies that were in the backyard this morning. The adult female of course stood directly behind the weather station pole, so that could have been better, but it is what it is.

An Eastern Water Dragon that once came across me as I was noodling around by a small river south of Sydney.
At first wary, it seemed quite happy to hang out so long as I kept my distance.
See the second shot for the full-length.
