Here are some still shots of the bobcat.

The bobcat came back again last night, and this time it took a five-minute power nap directly in front of the camera trap.

My biggest complaints are that a) I get a lot of corrupted files (not sure if that’s a problem with the cards or the cameras), b) the mobile app interface is a little clunky, and c) the desktop app interface is even clunkier. None of those are dealbreakers, though.
I‘ve only had the Reolink cameras since September 2022, so I’ll see how they hold up long-term, but so far, I’ve been extremely happy with them.
This isn’t a sponsored post. I just know that it’s hard to find good wildlife cameras, and I wanted to give some information about my experience in case it’s useful to other camera trap enthusiasts.

It’s been a great fit for me, and I was happy enough with it that I bought more for myself and my parents. They’re compatible with high-capacity micro SD cards, so I’ve never run out of space; they’re rechargeable, so I’m not constantly using AA batteries; and they can be used with solar panels, so some of them have gone months without needing to be plugged into an outlet.
The cameras connect to my phone via Wi-Fi, so I can watch animals live, download footage remotely, and re-aim the cameras. Obviously that wouldn’t be a useful feature if I had the cameras set up in the woods, outside of Wi-Fi range, but it’s perfect for use in my yard.

Technical Stuff: For any camera trap nerds out there, here’s some info about the camera traps that I used.
When I first started using camera traps, I got the classic rectangular camouflage ones with straps that wrap around trees. Those got some good footage, but they ran out of batteries quickly, weren’t compatible with high-capacity SD cards, and eventually all broke down.
So last fall, prompted by a Twitter user named Camera Trap Sue, I got a Reolink Argus PT camera. It’s marketed as a home security camera, but it works as a wildlife camera too.

Hello, #BirdPhotography, #NaturePhotography, #WildlifeCamera, #OutdoorPhotography, folks! Do you know lots about outdoor cameras? I need some help.
MUST be able operate at or below -20°F/-29°C and be weather resistant to IP55/IP57, modestly durable.
Installation on tree (battery + solar) or front porch (powered).
No attached food - want to capture a site at approx. 30ft/10m.
Day and night vision.
If possible, high speed at night, e.g. flying squirrel, owl?
Any ideas? Thanks! Retoots welcome.

Here's a pic of one of the local crows (Jackdaw I believe) giving my wildlife camera the 'evil eye' whilst stealing hedgehog food early in the morning! 😀
