Perched in the French Alps at the foot of Mont Blanc, the iconic town of Chamonix is a pioneering place known worldwide for its glaciers and as the birthplace of mountaineering practised there since the 18th century. It was in this village that the first Winter Olympic Games were held in 1924.
Chamonix confronts global warming by encouraging tourism professionals to adapt to changing conditions and promote local culture.

It’s getting too hot to make snow.
For dozens of Alpine ski resorts, this past Christmas and New Year season has been a literal washout. Very little snow fell in December. Then rain arrived, wiping many slopes back to green and brown turf.
Some ski resorts rely on machines to keep powder on the slopes. But snow guns guzzle water, are energy-intensive, and need cool temperatures to operate.
