@hkrn same with #L2TP & #IPsec, not just #OpenVPN and #WireGuard.

What does however still work through the #IronFirewall is #SSH-Tunneling and @torproject #TorBridges.

#WhatsMissing are more #meek, #webtunnel & #snowflake as well as #obfs4 #Bridges.

#SSH-Tunneling is nifty and easier as well as faster to setup than #WireGuard, #OpenVPN and espechally #IPsec as well as #L2TP.

Ich Probier‘ momentan mit Wireguard „all day“ rum und bin dadurch durchgehend hinter meinem Pihole.

Mein Akku hält plötzlich ohne Probleme über den kompletten Tag.

@climagic well, #WireGuard in it's premise is basically "What if we take #SSH-#Tunneling and make it a dedicaded #VPN protocol?" and that is a good thing...

Hab jetzt erfolgreich #HAProxy als Reverse Proxy für #Exchange am Laufen. #LetsEncrypt klappt auch wieder, das war bei meiner #UTM irgendwann nicht mehr aktivierbar und #WireGuard funktioniert ebenfalls. Bleibt dann nur noch der #Mail Prozess übrig.

#Laptop verbunden mit #WLAN vom Hotel. Und #Wireguard via #RaspberryPi hinter #FritzBox zu Hause läuft auch :-)

What I'd love to see is an "anti-#Chrome" with @torproject / #Tor, #I2P, #IPFS & #OpenVPN & #WireGuard other nice integrations from the get-go.

Same with #Thunderbird:
There the integration with gandi.net for custom #eMail is way nicer and less "on the nose" but with #Enigmail integrates there's no excuse not to use #OpenPGP-based end-to-end - encrypted eMails...

Maybe those were just keepalive & padding packets and those didn't get omnitted by the Server?
Would be kinda bad but not uncommon on other protocols like #PPTP, #L2TP, #IPsec & #OpenVPN...

I'd also not be surprised if said server and/or VPN config do some sort of MSS clamping or affix MTU to a few select options for efficient use of Ports and/or bandwith to MUX clients together...

Also #WireGuard will lilely try to kesp latency low.

@apangona some "padding" stuff to randomize packet size and prevent traffic analysis as well as keeping connections open? (Some Firewalls close connections quickly or try to reduce UDP ports being used)...
Maybe WireGuard is trying to use as few different packet sizes as possible without increasing latency too much?

Q: Have you been able to test against different #WireGuard versions and/or #Linux distros?

Damn, that means you'll constantly need an Fn key or otherwise have #macros...

My tech stack is mostly hampered by being forced to use what distros have packaged and/or isn't seen as a security risk.

Otherwise I would've already moved to #fish + #neovim and would use #WireGuard & #SSH-Tunnels instead of #OpenVPN or god forbid #IPsec...

Cuz socioeconomic need to have wagework or at least the payment of it is doing that.

@marcan @lanodan the only cases where one would need even more Power are setups like High-Bandwith #VPN Gateways like some huge #pfSense if one needs 40+ GBit/s throughput on #OpenVPN or #WireGuard.

Mind you that #LUKS - aside from the encryption of the key in the header, uses #AES256 by default for a long time and is pretty efficient even prior to #AESni.

So no, in most cases the impact is purely synthetic and not really of any impact...

Hat von euch schon bisschen mit #Wireguard experimentiert? Wenn ich es nur zum Routing in ein Netzwerk nutze ist die #Performance gut, aber wenn den Tunnel nutze um den gesamten Verkehr darüber zu routen kann man die Pakete einzeln zählen. #computerkram

Hat jemand schon mal nen #WireGuard -Server auf nem #raspberrypi konfiguriert und Erfahrungswerte bzgl. der Geschwindigkeiten gesammelt? Mich interessiert insbesondere ob es Geschwindigkeitsunterschiede gibt im direkten Vergleich dazu mit #WireGuard auf der #Fritzbox? Oft sind die CPUs von #AVM ja nen ticken "langsamer" als die CPUs in den FRITZ!Boxen...
