It's so weird. #WolfHall by #HilaryMantel is one of my all time favourites. I've read it 3 times (and possibly will read it again another 3 times at least). Of course, I've read also Bring Up the Bodies. But it's the 3rd time I start to read The Mirror and the Light. On the previous two occasions I just failed to finish it. It's not the book's fault. I might be a bit (a bit too much) reluctant, because knowing the end of the story from history, I just don't want to be too involved emotionally.

After 68 hours spread over two months, I've reached the Epitaph of #HilaryMantel's #WolfHall trilogy about the life of #ThomasCromwell, The Mirror and the Light, read by #BenMiles.

I was amazed when Mantel revealed in a Big Weekend of Books interview with ABC RN's The Bookshelf's Kate Evans (link below) how she wrote the ending of this novel after writing the opening of the first novel, Wolf Hall, because she knew that would be the arc of her story about Cromwell.

And now, I'm at the end of her trilogy, and I feel sad about it. Partly it's a human reaction to the endpoint of Cromwell's "arc" (despite his brutal reputation). But most of all, I will miss Hilary Mantel's writing, so wonderfully voiced by Ben Miles.

So if you have a spare 68 hours, I highly recommend this unabridged audiobook adaptation. And listening to The Bookshelf Pod Extra episode!

Wonderful (non-spoiler) lines from #HilaryMantel's #TheMirrorAndTheLight. Midway through the novel (#audiobook version), in a flashback, Thomas Cromwell reflects on his daughter Anne, who died in childhood (early in the first novel, #WolfHall):

Anne is a child who grizzles and wails, a trouble for the wet nurse...

My reading skews toward #NonFiction . Almost finished with #Memoir by #HilaryMantel Giving up the Ghost . How she managed to survive to write #WolfHall boggles the brain.

I finished #HilaryMantel's #WolfHall (for the 3rd or 4th time) last night and began #reading Andre Rowe's most recent #book. Big change in genre; this will be a quick read.

Wolf Hall read. Started a reading challenge this year....100 books in a year.

Only got to 52 so far but considering my attention span is completely screwed up due to my anxiety I'm pretty happy with that.

Hope I can do better in 2023.
