I can't get over how colourful autumn is this year. Usually we're feeling half-drowned in rain & quite grey by this time of year. Today held the delights of the final coat of timber treatment on the ceiling joists, and handing over a wedge for the next lot of materials. Prices are challenging. I feel for my clients. I focus on draughts & insulation, so these are essential works, good people trying to keep warm and save energy & CO2. #AutumnColours #Timber #CostOfMaterials #WomenInConstruction

Today's update - too many hours going round in circles, both in person & on the phone, chasing down materials quotes for jobs. Then a trip into 'the big city' to get some bits for Christmas. Came back to the van after the second stop, to find cheeky miss had wandered into the back of the van while I was gone, ferreted around, & found one of her pressies! She's not a bag-sniffer at any other time, but ropes are her drug of choice 🤣

I'm late with my daily update so I'm begging forgiveness with a pic of my beautiful pup, lying in our field. Early start in builders' merchant pricing up materials. Then me & The Man From Delft brushed the ceiling joists clean and applied the first coat of timber treatment. The floorboards above had been masticated into a pulp by Capricorn beetle so they need the nasty stuff. OK, we're back into the working week and I might need to ask you to calm yourselves - because it involved dropping another lath & plaster ceiling 🤣 Dusty. Dropping the ceiling took minutes, then the rest of the day was ferrying waste into trailers and cleaning. Supremely dull yet also satisfying. My reward was a warm fire and a bowl of my delicious homemade butternut soup. Pretty good start to the week. Off to cuddle the pup. #Demolition #StartTheWeek #ButternutSoup #WomenInConstruction

I realise sharing the excitement of my day might sadden those of you who've not had as much fun, but maybe I'll inspire a career change?! Today me & The Dutch Man lifted all the rotten floorboards up above where we took down the collapsing lath & plaster ceiling. Dust, beetle rot, walnut shells (squirrels), paper nests (mice / rats), a half-eaten dead bird (the cat) and ... a sock?!
