Interesting new paper by Nicolai Kuminoff, Katherine Ciaramello et al. "New Evidence on in Environmental and Resource Economics".
They show that women carry a heavier load in the society but author a lower % of publications in .
There is plenty of evidence that women face higher barriers to publishing. Thus, using publications as evidence of merit enshrines inequity in the system.
