Spanish players have spent years calling out a pattern of bad management, #sexism & a lack of ambition in the women’s program — but were largely ignored

Which are two best financed & resourced #womensfootball leagues in the world?
Spain & England.
which two countries have reached the #womensworldcup final?
Oh, Spain & England.
Where do the majority of women footballers play if not in their own country?
hmmmm, Spain & England.
Starting to see a theme?
But, of course, what this demonstrates is to get on in world support #investment is required.... the only Q. is how ponies up the cash?
Is women's football next on Qatar's 'investment' list?

Not the first time in recent years that I found myself at a men's football game and thought "women genuinely play better football."
Was an entertaining 90 minutes, full of silly mistakes on both sides, but to be completely honest: even Spain vs Sweden was a higher quality game than Austria Wien Men vs Legia Warsaw Men tonight.
(I'd never post this on the Other Place)
What a game. Well done the Lionesses! #worldcup #Lionesses #England #Womensfootball

Compared to the last two Women's World Cups I watched, the quality of the teams has increased massively. Of course a lot of the debutants struggle against the more established teams, but the gulf between those countries that have been investing in women's football for years and those who haven't is closing rapidly (case in point: Ireland against Canada, yesterday).
Also: always nice to see someone score their country's first ever goal at a World Cup, like Katie McCabe yesterday and Telma Encarnação just now. :)
Really enjoyable tournament so far (and with my NZ hat on: absolutely bloody fantastic)!
New Zealand Women doing surprisingly well against Norway in the opening game of the World Cup 👏

Just an incredibly compelling video from the French women’s national team, Féminin A or Les Bleues, and a perfect crystallization of how most people dismiss women athletes. You owe it to yourselves to watch.

#OnThisDay, 15 July 1970, Denmark beat Italy 2-0 in the unofficial women's football world cup. 40,000 people attend the final match.
Women have always played football. However, FIFA did not allow a woman to even speak at the FIFA Congress until 1986, and did not organise a women's world cup until 1991. Women's football was only made an Olympic sport in 1996.

I've had a pretty rough year (as in the past 12 months), but this year (2023) has been made so much better after deciding to go to the George for a pre-game meet-up.
Going to watch football has been a kind of coping mechanism and healing process and the Blues Women's Support Group has been a part of that this year.
A big thanks to Barry (left) for organising away games and pick-ups, Lynn (right with scarf) for travel too! 💙

Well, we got the win, but left us a point behind Bristol, just a win away from promotion.
There were a couple of games that should have been that win, but was unlucky and just got a draw.
They played brilliantly today with Lucy Quinn being especially much better than previous form.
Oh well, onto next season...

A great couple of goals to put us up 2-0 at the break.
Second goal was a bit of a scramble, but @charliedevlin98 got the final touch into the net!
Some good play from the girls, hoping for more of the same in the second half!!
Although Birmingham City Women haven't managed to take the top spot in the Barclays Women's Championship this season, the team has improved immensely, including winning player of the month and/or week.
BCFC Women & Lionesses U23 keeper Lucy Thomas being the latest winner!
Check out a recent interview where she reflects on the season and herself.

Well, it looks like Birmingham City Women's chances of winning the Barclays Women's Championship are over with Bristol City beating Charlton.
We had a great run and it was all coming down to the wire, but we know we can do better and next season will be our season!
