In April, Studio Ghibli launched new Totoro products created by Japanese local craftsmen.
Watching them working is a bit like ASMR.

Unfortunately the product is limited and was made in small amount.

Something that makes it special is the Totoro were carved from camphor, the wood of the same kind of tree where Totoro lives in.

Mahogany Bed/Settee

I finished a bed I needed for my house in the country.
It's made out of recycled sapele mahogany and pieces of rosewood.

There are two morals to this story.

1️⃣The tool you have is not *always* the best tool. Pruners are not staple removers.

2️⃣ The easy, quick, halfway solutions to small problems you make will one day be noticed, and questioned by others. (I could write a dense pamphlet on some of the previous owners’ decisions.)

But the door on this little gardening building has now been repaired.

Okay since I’m posting, here’s a few more shots of the garden and artwork. I participated in an open garden tour as part of the Northwest Perennial Association last month. The larger ceramic pieces here are almost all sculpted by me; the tiny ones on the shelves are all painted & glazed by my kiddo at the DIY ceramics shop.

It’s #PortfolioDay so here’s what I have been working on. I’ve been a sculptor for decades and I’ve worked in everything from bronze to neon tubes to taxidermy. Now I’m mostly doing wood and ceramics for my garden. The wooden columns were my covid project (one each done in 2020, 2021, and 2022). The other pieces are high fire ceramic.

Just finished refurbishing my late 60s La Pavoni Europiccola espresso machine.

Redid the wiring, repainted, new handles and base, all new seals, added a better switch system, swapped for a stronger heater, added a thermal fuse, etc.

Looking forward to getting to use it .

That pool cue pen is devilishly hard to manage. At 8.5 inches, no pen box or display fits. Normal pen pots tend to tip over. Something had to be done so I figured why not manage it like any other pool cue and make a cue stand for it?

Voila! #HotOffTheLathe today are the two cue sticks used as the uprights for the stand divider. The rack is 3D printed. The base is #shapermade and the divider is laser cut. Used all the toys on this one!
