Thousands of public employees in Lyon now have the option to work four days a week instead of five, without taking a pay cut.
The south-eastern city, one of France's biggest, is experimenting with a shorter work week in the hope of reducing absenteeism and narrowing the gender gap.

I technically finished working at 11:00, but I'm still at work to watch the last 2 episodes of Big Mouth season 2. Great show, well written and entirely not safe for work, not even a little bit.
I sometimes watch movies at work. I can only watch DVD. I have a Blu-ray drive on my Linux workstation, but I never got the Blu-ray software working. Recently I watched 100+ "classic" and drive-in movies from 3 cheap DVD sets I bought years ago. It was 50 Classic Sci-Fi, 50 Sci-Fi Invasion and 32 Drive-In Cult Classics. Some were good, and some were so very very not good. I got lots of work done while those were playing. Now it's back to music via Spotify.
Today is one of my start at noon and work until 23:00 or midnight minus an hour to go home and have dinner with Kat work days. My mantra for the day is, "it's the start of a new work week (Monday was a holiday) and a new month, so let's get shit done, but first, lunch." I usually eat lunch at my desk and watch an episode of something on Netflix while I half-ass work for 20 - 30 minutes. As the man said, let's get shit done, that is to say, after lunch!
Wow! Our VP for innovation reduced our meeting time from 180 mins to just 15!!!
Preparing for a short work week (Yay!) and reviewing my scheduled meetings. The calendar's "Travel time" option made me giggle because "1-2 minutes" isn't a standard selection. Not much travel time when you're working from home. π π

"The survey also found that 14% of workers have felt the need to take sustainability into their own hands because their place of work is not addressing it"
Oh so it's going to be one of those afternoons where I do a crapload of work, but don't actually get any work done on the one task I was planning on doing today. Maybe the 2nd half of the afternoon will settle down and I can concentrate on the one thing I intended to do today. It happens now and then.
What could be nicer on the brink of a Bank Holiday than thinking about the wonder-filled world of work? And that mug of yours that went missing. Well done everyone, with #inkyconditions π€

I'm installing a new version of some commercial software that requires that I also install a new license server. Once upon a time, they used FlexLM. That was simple, a compiled C program, that required the vendor provide a license daemon. Easy and simple. Then the license server was a complicated Java program, but still contained and fairly simple to use. Now their next generation server is web based and requires that MongoDB be installed. Gets more damn complicated every generation.
This is mildly surprising. I thought Google would be different. This is what I experienced in nearly every place I worked, except for 2 and 3 which doesnβt happen in agency work.

Dirty downside of 'return to office'
Push to end work-from-home could make climate crisis worse..#climatecrisis..#work https://www.businessinsider.com/return-to-office-remote-work-from-home-commute-companies-climate-2023-8?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=insider-everythingscience-sub-post&utm_source=reddit.com
It's one of those busy days and I am mighty deep in the 'ole rabbit hole. My rabbit hole has rabbit holes. It's the kind of day where I see something that needs to be fixed, and that leads to a need to do something else, and that leads to 3 different things I want or need to do before I can do that and some of those things lead to a redesign of how I am doing the first thing. Complaining? Not really. Some would say I thrive on this shit. Some might not be wrong.
