So, the #WorldBank has been happily supporting #fossilfuel business via trade financing even as it claims it is pushing for a #greentransition.
Somehow, the #energy firms keep getting their fingers into the pot of state (and global) economic support... its almost like they had good connections & were effective lobbyists.
Anyone who thinks shifting to alternate #energy sources will be easy might want to look back to #tobacco for the fossil fuel playbook!

The #WorldBank has today suggested that we are entering a likely decade of economic stagnation which they say will require “a Herculean collective policy effort to restore growth in the next decade to the average of the previous one” if it is to be avoided....
Before the #degrowth folk start with 'this is great', the problem is unplanned 'regrowth' will just see the poor (across the world) suffer & the rich, once again found ways to prosper.

Now the #WorldBank is putting pressure on the International Maritime Organisation to develop a #green levy as a way of incentivising vessel owners away from polluting heavy #diesel fleets
For developing countries, who see such fleet upgrades as prohibitively expensive, this (again) looks like rich countries trying to get poor contries to pay for damage wrought by the rich!

The #Biden administration has just nominated Ajay Banga (ex-head of Mastercard), who has described himself as a 'totally made in India guy', who they may hope will be (more?) acceptable to developing countries, who were dismayed by the current incumbent's scepticism around #climatechange.
But who knows what other candidates may 'emerge'?
