@ceemage @devxvda #Kabbadi is interesting. Running away is certainly an element of the game, but it's there's more physical contact in it than in most tag sports. I'd say that #WorldChaseTag takes the lead as the exemplar of a "running away" sport, though Kabaddi is probably not far behind.
(There are a number of tag sports, though only two, Kabaddi and World Chase Tag, have been formalised. Kabaddi is a codification of a schoolyard game; World Chase Tag is an ab initio creation.)
@ceemage @devxvda The real culprits for making a martial art out of running away are actually the English. #WorldChaseTag. As with most sports invented by the English, they're not the best at it. Both of the last two world finals came down to a French team vs an American team.
Are there any #parkour or #WorldChaseTag athletes on the Fediverse? #sport

Mastodon and Twitter are very different beasts. Neither fills the other's niche. I used Twitter for one thing, and that one thing is completely impossible on Mastodon.
(People see a new, strange, but exciting sport on television that they'd not previously heard of, and tweet about it. I loved searching those tweets, and occasionally interacting with the people. Mastodon does not allow this, for no good reason.)
If you are or can easily be in Columbus, #Ohio, USA, on 3-5 March, the pan-American #WorldChaseTag tournament is being held there as part of the #ArnoldSportsFestival (which is for multiple sports, but grew out of a #bodybuilding competition named after Arnold Schwarzenegger, and is still mostly focused on that kind of sport).

The main reason I got a Twitter account was to do frequent searches for World Chase Tag to find people discovering it for the first time and posting about it. Frequently the first post would be "What is this ridiculous nonsense‽" followed up a few minutes later by "This is actually kind of cool, though." And then a few minutes after that "I'm now officially a fan of this sport!"
I loved it, and miss it.
I'm the only person on the whole of the Fediverse who has ever used #WorldChaseTag.
@tebicat Where in the world are you? There may well be #parkour gyms in your area, with qualified teachers. Finding a local community is going to be your best bet.
(I'm not in parkour myself, but I follow a bunch of them on YouTube. Bob Reese is good at explaining how to do moves. JimmyTheGiant is perhaps the best at documenting parkour culture and history itself.)
Also, I'm a massive fan of #WorldChaseTag, and am in their Discord server. So are many of the athletes, and they're happy to chat.
So far, no one's responded to any of my #WorldChaseTag posts on Mastodon, but that isn't going to stop me making them. WCT5 ran over three days at the end of May, and the high-energy final has finally come to #YouTube.

My prediction before the contest was that the winning team would be either French or American. And in fact, the two teams in the final were the undefeated Apex Eth (USA) and the newcomers Parkour 59 (France).

And let's do another reply to throw in some hashtags I probably should have used in my earlier two posts:

The first ever all-women match in #WorldChaseTag history was held as part of the WCT 5 world final event. That was back in March in London, and I was in the crowd, but it's only today come to YouTube.

It was a good match, though a little one-sided perhaps. And the crowd was invested. The lads from Parkour 59 were beside me in the stands, and were vocal in their support. Some of these women are members of the same parkour gym.
@woooshuk I've seen some. But you can *only* search by hashtag, so #rugby. (You can also follow a hashtag, if you wish.)
The only sport I follow is #WorldChaseTag. No one except me is talking about that here. I've checked.
#sport (and me)
This event happened in March in London, was broadcast on ESPN in the USA shortly later (not live), and is gradually trickling out on #YouTube.
And, on the match that came to YouTube today, Phat v. Blacklist QF4, I've finally managed to spot my face in the crowd. Right at the end.
(It's a good match, too. Two very powerful teams. Low-scoring, like most good WCT matches.)

@yrochat Here's a sport for you: I've been trying to find anyone else with an interest in #WorldChaseTag. One of the delights of Twitter was people seeing it on television, being confused, and tweeting about it. (Often going from instant sneering dismissal to heavily invested over the course of a fifteen-minute match.)
I love this reaction. From "lol" to "this is electric" in two tweets a minute apart
No one's talking about #WorldChaseTag on Mastodon? Is there a sporty part of the fediverse?
(I've had no interest in #sport for most of my life, but discovered WCT a couple of years ago and became mildly obsessed.)
