"Black Girl" is a very short film (only 60 minutes) but packs a real punch. It's one of only 2 African films on the latest BFI 100 Greatest Films list.

I finally had the chance to watch the film CLOSE-UP (Abbas Kiarostami, 1990).

I remember having my mind blown when I found out David Simon cast a corrupt city councilman, fresh out of prison, to play himself and dramatize his corruption in TREMÉ. Well, imagine a movie where the entire cast is playing themselves like that.

Two new podcasts covering two very different films by Turkish director Metin Erksan, both on Mubi.

Dry Summer (Susuz Yaz) (1963) is a melodrama about villagers fighting over the right to water, and a love triangle involving 2 brothers.

Time to Love (Sevmek Zamani ) (1965) is a dreamlike film reminiscent of Antonioni about a man who falls in love with a photograph of a woman, who then falls in love with him.

Last night's viewing on #Mubi : Turkish film - "Time to Love" / "Sevmek Zamanı" (1965) directed by #MetinErksan.

Man falls in love with photo of woman he's never met - woman then turns up - man decides he's still in love with the photo, not the woman.

Great premise and it looked amazing but it didn't quite sustain itself for the 90 minute run time.
