Sudano-Sahelian architecture, sometimes called "earthen architecture," is a style which uses mud bricks and adobe plaster over wooden beams to build airy desert-friendly dwellings with distinct appearances. Famous examples include the Great Mosque of Djene, Sakore Mosque at the University of Timbuktu, and Larabanga Mosque, all rebuilt with the same style over hundreds of years. #WyrdWednesday
During the Siege of Inabayama Castle, the enemies of Hideyoshi noted that the man appeared to have built a castle overnight; in reality, he used pre-constructed sections to make it appear as if he had. This "one-night castle" was later turned into Sunomata Castle. #WyrdWednesday

Few myths equal Odin's great escape with the Mead of Poetry from Suttungr's fortress: the Mead of Poetry was made from the blood of Kvasir, god of knowledge, by cruel dwarfs; seeing the brilliance and cunning it gave the dwarfs, the jotun lord Suttungr took it as his revenge price for their slaying of his parents. He came a brilliant lord, a discovery Odin made only after discovering the death of Kvasir. So, Odin cunningly snuck into the fortress of Suttungr deep in a mountain, and there seduced his beautiful daughter Gunnlod, who had been left to protect the Mead of Poetry. In tricking her and breaking her heart, Odin won access to the Mead and drank it all in one gulp then turned into an eagle, flying away; yet he was not alone. Suttungr, inspired by the Mead, knew he had come and began chasing Odin as an even larger eagle, all the way from Jotunheim to Asgard. Odin vomited the Mead into several cauldrons for the gods, but in fear shit in Suttungr's mouth as he tried to bring Odin down. Thus Odin got away, and won the inspiring Mead of Poetry for gods and humanity; yet the shit that Suttungr ingested is the origin of bad poetry. #WyrdWednesday

#Celtic #WyrdWednesday: `Lugh earned the title #Samildanach which meant ‘equally skilled in all arts’, as he could turn his hand to anything and make a success of it. The god was revered for being multi-skilled and talented; he was a fine and brave warrior, was good to his (foster) mother; a just and noble king; he played the harp, was a healer, a druid, a poet and a sorcerer; he was skilled in the forge, was a good builder and carpenter, and a great horseman. He loved to have fun, and is said to have invented many ball games, and the #Irish board game known as #Fidchell.
The fact that he was born noble but was not afraid to work alongside the simple tradesman would have made him beloved of the ordinary folk. He tried his hand at everything, which suggests he was not afraid to fail, yet was confident in his capabilities.`
