Last night I wrote the very final chapter of a manuscript I'm currently working on (a YA horror/speculative manuscript called LAST NIGHT AT HITCHCOCK'S), including an epilogue. I usually never skip ahead to future scenes, but this is for the YA writing class I'm taking with Nova Ren Suma this semester. While I'm not satisfied with the final chapter yet, I'm in love with the epilogue. Like IN LOVE. ❤️

Just realized that when A MISFORTUNE OF LAKE MONSTERS comes out in 2024, it will have been almost exactly *TEN YEARS* since I finished the first final draft of the manuscript.

That book has been through 2 agents, multiple sub rounds to publishers, a few near-misses, rewrites/revisions--and finally, sans agent, it found a home with a midsize publisher. The perfect publisher, I think.

Guess it's true that a published writer is just one that didn't give up.

I lost about 20 minutes today daydreaming about list-making. Specifically, the list of folks to maybe ask to blurb A MISFORTUNE OF LAKE MONSTERS once I have the ARCs in hand.

It was time well spent.

I am a #YAWriter who has a book out and another one in the works, & yet, I often don’t feel like I’ve done anything of note.

By the time my next book comes out, it’ll be 5 years after my debut. I have no idea where I’ll be in the #publishing industry, or if I’ll matter at all

I compare my career & output to people far more prolific and successful than I am, & I fall short every time. I’ve been in the #kidlit world since 2005 but who cares?

My brain is a fun place to be sometimes 🙃
