These #Yealink #VOIP phones are less of a bear to configure (including setting correct tones for Britain and the date/timezone/NTP) than the Ciscos I was dealing with a decade ago!

Tip: Turn off #CNG (comfort noise generator) on each telephone set if you are linking a hosted VOIP system (some customised #Asterisk build) to an IVR on another #Asterisk on-premises system, otherwise the phone generates a harsh loud hiss in the "silent" periods of the IVR!

#Yealink 70B base station and W56H handset were silly easy to set up. Sub accounts, soft clients, extensions and mailboxes all up and running. Upstream DIDs ported into voip.ms.

voip.ms was totally the right way to go.

So I just determined at work that forwarding your desk phones from the actual #yealink desk phones we have simply isn't going to work. We're only going to forward using the carriers settings. And so, in a Slack chat, I wrote this line of the show:

"You didn't like me when I was a nice guy, now you'll love me when I'm a policy godzilla."

@timstarks @aaronjschaffer I am somewhat surprised that #Yealink is not on that list. Word in the community is that the platform is not secure from a national security / quality standpoint.

I evaluated a Yealink #voip desk phone and looking at the network traffic was surprised how many outbound connections were made to random worldwide and Chinese third party VPS and NT servers. This was after manually setting the time server on the phone.

Yealink support / sales offered to provide a custom firmware to take care of this unexpected network traffic but we declined and moved into another vendor.
