3. Like many Vietnamese words, a generic form of a word usually has an implied meaning. "Tết" means "festival" but it usually means the Lunar New Year celebrations, unless context or additional adjectives are added. (Side note: similar for the word for "meat"---it normally means pork unless an adjective is added).

4. This is the one zodiac animal year that differs from our LNY cultures. In Vietnam, it's #YearOfTheCat not the rabbit!!

The Sino-Viet name for the year of the 🐈/🐇 is Mão/Mẹo 卯 which is similar in pronunciation to the 🇻🇳 word Mèo for cat.
