Wow, White2Tea's 2021 "Blood Moon" has really furry leaves... Wait, their "Moon Bear" "white" raw puerh tea also had similar furry buds... I suspect this is the same material processed as a shade dried white. So, if you liked "Moon Bear", this might be another tea to try.

For many years, White2Tea refused to use the term "gushu" to describe any of their teas, especially puerh. In typical White2Tea fashion when they finally released teas they described with the word "gushu", they still weren't puerh, but a wild Yunnan tea processed as white and red tea. "ye sheng gushu hong cha" is the red/black version. With a bitterness level on par with grapefruit or amaro, a unique scent reminiscent of dried chiles, and a somewhat savory/medicinal flavor, it's definitely not a "crowd pleaser". However, those of us that do like it, really like it.

Long Mei Yunnan tea of Zhenyuan, lightly flavored, pleasant textured green tea from Simao, Yunnan. Zippy energy, light smoky character if pushed, enjoyable huigan. No harshness or off vegetal flavor. Initially bought it to try for ice box tea, but it wasn't assertive enough to shine when made cold process. Good spring tea, though.

"High Mountain Red Ai Lao Mountain Black Tea". The name is a little word salad-ey, but this is another delicious and well priced tea from Yunnan Sourcing. Also, another atypical Yunnan red, closer to Taiwan or Fujian reds in character than typical Dian Hong style red.

At 9 years old, 2014 Red Shroom Shou Puerh from White2Tea goes back to the early days of the company. I always say raw puerh gets weirder with age and ripe puerh mellows and gets less weird. After 5 years in White2Tea storage and 4 years in my basement, Red Shroom practically tastes like slightly funky black tea. Another good cold weather tea.

If you control the means of production and the raw materials, you can do whatever you want. In the case of Astro Red, White2Tea set aside some of the puerh maocha blend intended for Astro Kittens and processed it into a red tea, Astro Red. Rich and slightly, pleasantly bitter, it's a very more-ish example of Yunnan Red tea. A luxury to be sure.
