I'm super jazzed that @petejohanson's Blank Slate #ortholinear #mechanicalkeyboard is making progress towards being in stock at Little Keyboards!
I suppose I ought to start digging into #ZMK while I'm waiting...

Definitely! There are many #Linux users on the #MoErgo Discord community.
#Glove80 doesn't use special drivers or dongles, it's just USB HID spec compliant over either USB or BLE.
If you're wondering about how configuring the keymap works: there's a vendor-hosted webapp which spits out the firmware file. Installing that is just like putting the file on a USB stick. (Alternatively, you can build the #ZMK-based firmware yourself.)

Lovely! Corne is way too small for my taste, but nice piece.

I'm currently pretty interested into custom (and split) keyboards, but I'm pretty confused, since I'm not able at soldering at all, so I just find somewhere where to buy those as pre-built. 😔

Oh oh, and that #GitHubActions build system is set up on a standard repo structure defined by the #ZMK project.
They provide a script to quickly set up a #Git repo for your keymap, shield, or board with those GitHub Actions provided out of box.
From there I just had to add the files for my shield (keyboard) and push to kick off a build matrix to compile every shield+board combo I configured. In my case I got my keaboard left and right shields compiled for nice!nano v1 and v2.
Love it.
I finally got around to using my #NiceNano for my custom #MechanicalKeyboard instead of my wired #EliteC and I have to say #ZMK is an absolute delight!
Shout out to @petejohanson and the contributors over at @zmk for providing such a smooth and clean developer experience.
I was able to get my keyboard set up as a new shield and running on my nice!nano boards in under three hours! A few tweaks over the next few days and I've found several delightful sane defaults.

Last night tried out #KMK for this little 38 key beast... Works but never really was able to configure #modtap on the bottom 3 key row. Also found #mueditor and #circuitpython a bit funky to work with... Maybe I go back to #vial on #qmk. Or #zmk? Wondering if I can even get this on a #rpi #pico.

Recently I often felt the sudden urge to financially support certain #FOSS projects, like @Codeberg (https://codeberg.org) or #ZMK (https://zmk.dev/, https://petejohanson.dev/blog/new-journey-2022/).
But considering rising energy costs I’ll first have to check if I can afford generosity of that kind. I’ll give #hledger (https://hledger.org/) a try again, after I had used it for a while in the past.

So, on the whole ZMK vs. QMK thing
I've done some more digging into the details, and it doesn't look like they're that much of direct competitors, despite doing virtually the same thing
First of all there is supported chips difference. ZMK doesn't support the 32u4s which is bread and butter for QMK, and the other way around the BT nfr52xx is the main shtick for ZMK, can't be supported by QMK due some licensing issues
there are forks but who will realistically do that?
I spent couple of days messing with ZMK, and it's damn smooth! especially when it comes to BLE and nice!nano, it worked like magic
It actually damn impressive how ZMK works with wireless split keyboards.
Imagine, you only flash the left half, and it automatically beams the updated configs to the right half _wirelessly_! 🤯
Speaking of #firmware, are there any #zmk adepts around whom I could bug with stupid questions?
I want to give it a try over #qmk this time around to see if it's any better for handling more customized use cases.
I had to mess around a lot to make all the multi purpose buttons work for my 40% setup
This is my #ZMK #keyboard layout for my Corne-ish Zen https://github.com/thomasfr/miryoku_zmk
I have to update the default picture of the #miryoku layout cause i highly modified it. Wanted to use ISRTG (https://notgate.github.io/layout/) keyboard layout but that was too much at once, so i falled back to regular QWERTY - at least for now
@rockylinux the #zephyrrtos because without it, I never could have gotten #zmk to where it is. Awesome embedded project, solid release process, docs, and design.
People who have bought the #Kinesis #Advantage360 #keyboard and are struggling with its possibilities might be interested in reading my four series blog articles about (mechanical) #keyboards and creating a custom layout: https://karl-voit.at/2021/01/30/keyboards/

#ZMK is so easy to get started with: run some script, push to github, download firmware and flash to your board, so nice! #splitkeyboard could be working today!
