of course the ultimate resolution will inevitably be cultural (i.e., if somebody comes up with a useful interpretation of underscores and it catches on, that will be that...)

re people who think they should be different: I guess question then would be different *how*? It's one thing if you're designing a programming language where you want *some* rigidity of syntax so that mistakes are easy to spot and there are all sorts of different uses for case conventions (e.g., capitalizing class/type names vs var/instance names).
But this isn't a programming language (or it shouldn't be)
