I remember Jez Climas giving useful rule of thumb of ~3% drop in efficiency per 1C increase in flow temperature! Worth checking that out

This is where an air to air multi-split may be worth considering as well in its own, or even to augment & enable lower flow temps on the other heat pump

My dad had a 4 indoor unit Panasonic multi split fitted in Sep’22. Working well. Went this route as he has 8mm micro bore pipes in his house(& not needed gas boiler this winter!)

My dads Multi-split (9.5kW outdoor unit & 4 indoor) short cycles have stopped, & he’s only had a single defrost cycle in the last 48 hours

Due 2 Octopus 🐙 Go (5hrs) cheap rate, I set it to run the house downstairs hot overnight 2 store energy + explicit off periods. Local room boosts when needed as can be seen 🙅🏻‍♂️👌🏻

And also, tell people 2 look around in towns/cities etc. as most businesses are heated (&cooled) by the air conditioning variety of & these are often in poorly insulated buildings

Business &commercial sector in U.K. seem much further ahead with this transition, as they appreciate the variety *also* does cooling in the summer which the variety can’t when paired with radiators

They just work if designed/installed well

Not even one defrost cycle today

A big difference in how you use an is then translated to how efficient it is and how it runs. Much less energy being used than previously

Look at the difference just *1* (of the 4) indoor unit keeps a 4 bed 1980’s detached house (av. insulation etc) at ~20 Celsius inside all day

Peaks in the graph are “boosts” using the other indoor units

4-6 Celsius outside today for reference.

At ~09:30 today in below screenshot I turned off all but one off the 2.8kW (heating mode) indoor units, set it up a degree C or so higher, and as you can see, it’s humming along at ~450watts for the most part which is very different behaviour (in a good way). It doesn’t like them all on in above ~>5C temperatures it seems.

It’s almost as if is the very the *opposite* of where more emitters/water volume is ideal.
