#KnowledgeByte: #Abbreviations are a common part of our lives, they save us time and space in our written communication. In other words, almost anything you want to do, from official documents to text messages, will require you to know an abbreviation or two.

Please don’t use #abbreviations, initials #jargon etc. in your Toots unless you need to and you define what you are referring to. Why post coded messages on social media? Might as well just write in your private diary.

We are rapidly approaching peak incomprehensibility on most online platforms, including this one. Or to use the currently accepted format:
WARAPIOMOPITO.
That’s pronounced Wah-rah’-pee-oh-moh’-pee-toe.

AMAPFALAP, AP, BCG, BGG, DAW, FROMG, GM, LARP, NPC, OP, RPG, XP -- these are the abbreviations in our wiki's glossary so far.

Do you know all of them? If so... that's a bit weird... ;) because two are purely for wiki's internal use. ;)

But most of the entries follow our basic method: "present game design to composers and contemporary music to game designers".

Not sure if the #context of the #abbreviation is relevant, but wouldn't a nice idea be a #mastodon server or even browser extension that just parsed text and added an html title to any #acronyms it recognised with a list of possible meanings?

Or even a courtesy code like a .dot placed before a term that forced a look-up?

As one forever rummaging around in specialist and niche accounts, I'm like 4 times an hour asking what that acro means.

We have resolved to use the abbreviation, #crycry for #cryptoCurrency.

Not only is it easy to type but there's a melodramatic quality to it that we found quietly hilarious.
