I ordered a copy of Simone deBeauvoir’s book - ‘America Day by Day’ from #AbeBooks. The gentleman didn’t mention anything about the book other than it was in readable condition.

This is an editors proof copy. Before a First Edition 😳 Ladies and gents, I think I just found a piece of literary #history 🥳

I already knew that #BookFinder is owned by #Amazon but I should have guessed that #AbeBooks as well.

So #Amazon is closing #BookDepository. This follows on the heals of them announcing they're shuttering #DPReview last week. Both well-regarded and well-patronised companies.

Perish the thought that a pattern might be developing, but if you are a regular patron of any of the following, you might want to start thinking about alternatives:

Disappointed to find out that the book I just bought from Abe Books ended up getting processed by Amazon. I try so hard to avoid Amazon. Ugh. I didn’t know Amazon owned them. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I've been buying from #AbeBooks website for a couple of years now. I type #Korea into search bar and see what comes up! Having just read about a USA soldier in SK, I'm so far enjoying this book - he will be doing National Service in SK when he stops being a reckless country boy during WW2. His country family background is much like my ( slightly younger) Dad's family, although his Dad was a builder, and my grand dad was a farm labourer. Loved the #hop section.

On related note, I looked up what the original #Doubleday #hardcovers are going for in #eBay and #AbeBooks, and both #Hyperion and #TheFallOfHyperion are going for crazy amounts of money (thousands and hundreds, respectively).
The #Endymion duology goes for somewhat more reasonable prices.

Also I wonder why did #Simmons change publishers, since Doubleday published the first two and #Bantam the last two.

I just don't understand why people hail this online bookstore as the anti-Amazon. It's yet another centralised for-profit bookstore.

There are thousands of online booksellers in USA and elsewhere. When I buy #books I just look for them on #AbeBooks and order directly on the seller's website if they prefer so. I currently have a wishlist with books from 5335 different sellers: do they prefer to get some sales or to receive charity from a competitor? #nt
