@cedar Your last paragraph seems a great elucidation.
It can be so frustrating for more radical people inside to see those outside, with such (relative) freedom kowtow to the powers-that-be, and simply ask for reforms(; or in some cases even nullify radical prisoners' demands!).
For anyone else reading: There remains potential for interaction between the two parties as well. Prisoners can struggle primarily for improving (or at least not having worsened) their conditions, while still remaining abolitionists; and those outside can also listen to the prisoners to exert pressure on the jails and prisons to meet those strugglers' demands.
