I just had to buy this piece (artist: Elizabeth Dixon) which features a Dromornis bone and the skull of the new species of Baru which I am so close to naming imminently (publication just weeks away). 2/2

Today I had the pleasure of attending the opening of Engawala Art Centre. Engawala is an Aboriginal community very close to the Alcoota fossil site. We have been working together with the artists of Engawala, to sell some of their work at Megafauna Central, and bringing the artists to the fossils so that they may create create Alcoota-themed works. 1/2

An online search for the artist Yakultji Napangati identified several artist profiles. She was born at Wilkinkarra (Lake Mackay) in the Gibson Desert of Western Australia

A very similar painting to Star Gate is Women’s Dreaming, shown here, but watch Shimmer for context of her art

I posted the following painting on the bird site back in September 2015 on the 20th anniversary of the US Star Gate remote viewing program having been terminated. I repost the same Star Gate painting by artist Yakultji Napangarti here today for

All too often when people buy artworks by Indigenous Australians, incorporating culture specific imagery, they later discover the work was produced in another country. This is a guide to ensuring that the artwork belong to the culture it depicts

AAAS: "Aboriginal knowledge links Australia's 'fairy circles' to termites" Australian Aboriginals have provided insights which may help settle a debate about the origin of these mysterious small patches of barren earth. "Some ecologists think the patches, found in arid grasslands in Australia and Namibia, result from plants competing for water and nutrients." But a study published in Nature Ecology & Evolution argues this explanation ignores an alternative perspective. Thousands of yrs of Aboriginal knowledge incorporated into paintings + stories tell a different tale, that the circles 'stem in part from underground nests of flying harvester termites.' Australia's original peoples gathered them for food + other uses. "Dozens of Aboriginal elders and experts, listed as co-authors on the new paper, shared this traditional knowledge with partners at Australian research institutions." The confirmation came from digging trenches in the patches, known locally in Western Australia as linyji, which revealed extensive termite tunnels. "The authors say the results offer a lesson for scientists who ignore the traditional knowledge of Indigenous people." There you've heard it, another win for the home team. The photos are of an aerial photograph (first image) and a 1976 painting (second image) by Aboriginal artist Kaapa Tjampitjinpa. F. WALSH ET AL., NAT. ECOL. Last year I ordered this print, Tree of Life, for a friend in the United States who had been a whistleblower about racism and ableism at a certain nonprofit. Flashblak sent me the print to send but then never gave me her payment info (this was when we'd known each other online but I hadn't met her in person yet or found her shop to go give her money for things).

She's a very generous and talented soul and definitely deserves to have more people know about her art and buy things from her.

I finally have a frame for this beautiful print that I bought from my friend last year. Pic is very glary, but it's protected and ready to be hung up on the wall.

The print is called "This is Me" and the artist is Flashblak. Her shop is here if anyone wants to own one of their own prints! flashblak.com.au/Shop.php She also sells a lot of other things too.

The Torch is a wonderful organisation in Victoria Australia offering opportunities to Indigenous offenders and past offenders through art. Many are finding a sense of self-pride and identity for the first time in their lives through being valued for their creativity. thetorch.org.au/

Day 20. First day of issue stamp challenge.
Art of the Desert. It is as if art history only began in 1988 but here is the Australia Post official note on these 37c, 55c, 90c, and $1 stamps.
One of the most exciting contemporary art movements in this country has derived from the introduction of new painting media to the Aboriginal communities in Central Australia. While the acyrilic paints and hardboard may be recent innovations, the central themes of the paintings are the traditional stories of the Dreamings. The works repoduced on the stamps are all part of the collection held by the Flinders University of South Australia’s Art Museum. Goanna Dreaming by Jean Napanangka Brown of Yuendumn is featured on the first day cover.
Stamp cover design: Janet Boschen Australia Post Graphic Design Studio
The artists, named on their artwork, are almost forgotten because it takes a keen eye to read their names: 37c stamp Bush Potato Country by Turkey Tolsen Tjupurrula, 55c stamp Courtship Rejected Limpi Puntungka Tksangati, 90c stamp Medicine Story by Unknown, $1 stamp Ancestor Dreaming by Tim Leura Tjaplljarri. (If there are spelling errors I cannot do better with my magnifying glass.)

One of my favourite examples of how public art can be beautiful, but also make people feel welcome/feel that they belong - City of Vincent, which has a large LGBT population, got Whadjuk/Balladong Nyoongar and Eastern Arrernte artist J.D. Penangke to paint this traffic box with rainbow coloured art for Pride.

You can see more of her art at jdpenangke.com and facebook.com/JDpenangke

One of my favourite mural artists is Whadjuk/Balladong Nyoongar and Eastern Arrernte artist J.D. Penangke. This is an AMAZING giant mural of two long-necked tortoises that she painted on a basketball court, seen from above. You can see more of her art at jdpenangke.com and facebook.com/JDpenangke

Today I'm sharing Songlines: Tracking the Seven Sisters, edited by Margo Ngawa Neale.

Prof Neale is Head of Indigenous Knowledge Curatorial Centre, National Museum of Australia. This large format book is based on a past exhibition of the same name. I was fortunate to have seen this exhibition a few years ago.

Martu, Ngaanyatjarra, Pitjantatjara and Yankunytjatjara peoples participated in this expansive art, storytelling and knowledge project.

First Peoples around the globe hold knowledges and stories of the Pleiades constellation. For many, they're the Seven Sisters. Stories connect us.

Find out more about the exhibition, see some of the artwork, and watch the interactive multimedia here > nma.gov.au/exhibitions/songlin

After touring Australia from 2017, it headed to Europe. Was in Berlin this year, and France in 2023.
