Was talking with a friend about gods - I mean, the Nordic gods, the other gods and how the written records were mostly created when Christianity was already gaining significant ground.
All the polytheistic religions have gods that are somewhat similar to humans with strengths, weakness; lying, scheming, f***ing around, and so on. Except the god in the monotheistic religions (Abrahamitic): here, He is good, He is great, He is all-knowing, He is almighty.
But then, He schemes and puts a tree in his Garden Eden “to test whether his creation will follow his order or go their own way”. So, is He all-knowing or not? If he is not all-knowing, how can He be the only god?
And he doesn’t put just any tree there but “The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil” (I know, there was another tree, but this one is the important one)…
Anyway, for me that story confirms that the Abrahamitic god is just a scheming, jealous, angry being. He either knew that Adam and Eve definitely would try that apple or he wanted to tease them.
On the other hand, this is the god who banished his most beloved angle to hell because that angel disagreed with him over how to handle the humans. That angel wanted the humans to know good from evil, and therefore he had to be banished.
Weird story…
