It would be nice to have more papers looking at whether the tests are accessible by default to disabled students, equitable to all, whether they assess what they purport to assess, whether what they purport to assess is worth assessing, but once more we have to cater to ableists whose primary worry about online access is that there might be cheating.

Study says: Most students don't cheat.

Might we suggest it's a good time to add anti-ableism to the platform? Including kicking some ass on UC, CSU, and CA's community colleges, who get away with even more than K-12 do.

this article lionizes an academic for trying to continue to work hard as part of the recognition rat race despite limitations of Long Covid, with the support of a spouse and the finances to get hyperbaric oxygen therapy etc

i do not find the framing of this article even slightly inspiring

The postponed Plant Breeding Retreat is doing the same thing. Despite my having written immediately about online access as soon as both were announced.

They said the same thing as last time...they were "discussing potential online options" but the registration form is up today and it emphasizes it's an in person retreat. They know what they're doing.

Hey academics with ADHD, how are you coping? Are any of you thriving? Canโ€™t say I am. Working on better systems and likely more ADHD coaching.

Public universities are playing a shell game and media keeps falling for it. WHY aren't public universities highest common denominator accessible BY DEFAULT? It should be funded out of general fund already!

If you're facing pressure NOT to offer online accessibility for courses, events, and other UC offerings, esp if admin is trying to keep such pressure off the official public record, please whistleblow to us.

I really don't want it to be that I have to stop speaking up about ableism in my school because I've been triggered so much in these recent years that everything's too close to the surface now. But the physical effects of being triggered are really taking a toll on me.

The State Bar of CA already doesn't do a good job of adhering to disability law and offering accessibility for taking the bar exam. Apparently they're prepared to go more ableist.

DREDF has prepared a sample letter. The deadline to submit comments is Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Attendance policies were always ableist. They were ableist during the pandemic, and they're ableist now.

If students don't attend your class, ask yourself why. Why aren't they interested? Why isn't my class valuable? What barriers are preventing them from attending? How do I adapt to meet students where they're at? How can I create multiple spaces for participation and engagement?

Stop telling disabled students to advocate for themselves. Seriously, stop.

Recognize the power structures within and try and imagine how much work advocating for equity and access is. It's exhausting and it takes bravery no student should be required to have.

Don't perpetuate this nonsense.

The responsibility should be on the instructor and the institution.
