I am stunned that a candidate in an interview decided to download, wholesale, a .ppt from a major database vendor and then present it as part of their teaching demonstration during the interview as if it was their own without telling the committee where it had come from. Absolutely flabbergasted. Do. Not. Do. This. Ever. By all means, share your discovery that those teaching aids exist, but do not pretend as if it's your own during an interview. #AcademicLibraries #AcademicLibrarians

For those who teach any sort of Intro to Data Visualization workshop/series, what applications are you teaching these days? I'm liking @datawrapper a lot but am also trying to think about what students are likely to encounter in industry, other classes, etc.

Ugh --- how to convince one's #HigherEd / #AcademicLibraries colleagues that "AI" is not at all like the pocket calculator, functionally or pedagogically, and that it's not just a bad metaphor but a dangerous one? Or further, that we did a TERRIBLE job adapting *critically* to Google Search precisely because we failed, socially and culturally, to adequately challenge its assumed neutrality (even though many valiantly tried).

Who benefits from these sorts of rhetorical gestures? (Why are they frequently deployed by tech elites/CEOs?)

FWIW, most of us are very comfortable with technology and enjoy serving our online students. However, there is an small, obstinate, vocal faction engaging in passive aggressive tactics that make life harder for the students to have their way and it's angering. #libraries #AcademicLibraries

I'm helping 2 faculty develop an u-grad Library & Archival Studies Concentration in Africana Studies, in part to encourage students to pursue their MLIS. We're creating an intro LIS foundations class & I'm helping to craft a module on the history of the profession.

I have 3 broad categories of content:

1) History of LIBRARIES: establishment of public libraries, efforts to integrate libraries, collections (whose voice gets included/excluded)

2) History of LIBRARY WORKERS: feminized/white; race, racism, segregation; professionalization

3) History of LIBRARY WORK: collection building & description, evolution of subject classification; consortial collections/reference, resource sharing; technology and the transformation of library work; labor/unionization
