Honestly, that is all I'm doing right now because I don't feel like actually working. I consider my online #book #WindowShopping part of my "professional development" because these books CAN help me, but I'm too poor. 😔

Why are work-related books so expensive? I'm trying to learn to grow in my job and this sorta makes it hard. I could probably ask them to buy me books, but that means they have to stay here and I can't mark on them.
Even the used copies are pricy. Why?!

Now a little but about Ellen Dorothy Schultz Quillin. She was born on June 16, 1887, in #Michigan. She received an M.S. degree from the University of Michigan in 1918 & did postgraduate work at the University of Texas as an instructor in systematic botany. She helped established the #WitteMuseum in 1926, where she was director from 1926 to 1960.

The best part of my job in the #SpecialCollections is the rabbit holes I fall into. While looking through our #RareBook collection, I found a #Book on #Texas #WildFlowers by Ellen D. Schultz who was the director of the #WitteMuseum in #SanAntonio. And despite all if her accomplishments her publishers, the Laidlaw Brothers of #Chicago, only watered Ellen down to just her husband's wife.

Working on a research guide for invasive species in the #LowerRioGrandeValley. I didn't now what I was expecting when I took on this task, but I can tell you that this project is both dull and interesting. #LibaryLife #AcademicLibrary #SpecialCollections #RioGrandeValley #InvasiveSpecies

We're entering #DeadDays soon so #CampusLife might slow to a crawl, but not #LibraryLife. The #library never sleeps though (except when it's closed but, eh, semantics). #AcademicLibrary #SpecialCollections

I'm convinced that the reference desk computer hates my taste in music. It always acts up when I play music. But when my coworker plays his cello music, not a peep. #SpecialCollections #AcademicLibrary #LibraryLife

#CollegeStudents are no better. They don't understand the concept of "quiet spaces." There's someone just outside the department taking a call on speaker mode. They're sitting next to a sign that specifically states that the area is supposed to be quiet. #LibraryLife #SpecialCollections #AcademicLibrary

We once had an #English #professor demand to be allowed in our stacks while we were relocated. Started spouting out how we were violating his freedoms by keeping him out. He wouldn't tell us what book he was seeking so we could page it for him. He just wanted to be given special privileges because he was faculty. #LibraryLife #SpecialCollections #AcademicLibrary

Much like parents were the worst at the #PublicLibrary, faculty are the worst in the #AcademicLibrary. They think that their status gives them the freedom to go wherever they want or do what they feel like. Like no ma'am. This reading room is the only space you can visit in #SpecialCollections. #LibraryLife

It occurs to me I haven’t done a formal introduction on here, so…hi! I’m a #librarian and director of an #academiclibrary, and an #adjunct #professor, all at a small #university in the South. I have #cats and #dogs, read a lot of nonfiction, watch too much #truecrime, and am an overall #geek. Mom to a college student, wife to a fellow geek. She/her.

Me, an almost forty-year-old adult is just sitting here, at the reference desk, whispering, "Ehpowt? I'm not going to the ewport."
This would have made more sense back when I was in the #ChildrensDepartment at the #PublicLibrary, but this is an #AcademicLibrary at a #college!
But still - Ehpowt? I'm not going to the ehpowt.

Libraries are the best.
A friend was looking for an photo in a 2002 issue of India Currents, but even the publisher couldn’t find the original.
I checked Worldcat, and they said UC Berkeley had a copy. So I walked over to their main stacks, and in a minute, found a lovely bound volume containing the original article and accompanying photo.
How amazing is it that public institutions are preserving materials that even the publisher can’t or won’t save?

@AshleyMarineP I don't know of a specific need-an-article hashtag, though that would be useful!
For searching, I suggest googling the paper title as a phrase. If that doesn't find a full text, try pubmed or google scholar. Papers by US federally funded researchers are required to be free in pubmed a year or so after publication. Many other countries and some institutions have similar policies and open archives. 1/2 #pubmed #academicLife #academicLibrary
