So was told my annual review for “professionalism & collegiality” was 5/6, not 6/6 because I failed to attend a weekend retreat (I have a little kid, a partner who also travels for work, and an elderly mother who often visits & don’t think weekend retreats support work/life balance). Oh & I did not attend all faculty lunch meetings (looking at my calendar its because I was at conferences or grant panels). #equity #AcademicMastadons

I’m in the thick of grading midterm English Composition I essays, and I’m only seeing a few instances in this cohort of students, but the specific students are going to need to read something that’s not written by me. I read some toots about wanting a quote feature, like #Twitter. Professionally, I work in #datascience. Information is a threshold of redundancy, correlations, and entropy. Too many different states I.e. entropy and there's no information. Twitter quotes create an additional wrapper where a person can include new hashtags thereby introducing more entropy and noise. It reduces the amount of meaningful #information.

the mess within the academia needs cleansing. almost everyone within the system says the same thing. unfortunately, many of those who even complain or attempt to fight this menace, when they climb the ladder and shoulder the leadership of academics, even within the space of political terrain, they fight the academics whom they should be supporting.
