A genuine question, esp. for :

It is reasonable to ask for the style of paper assignments we do given the expected audience for the paper is precisely 1 (namely, the person grading it)?

I find myself occasionally giving feedback to students about how to approach writing within the style of the philosophy essay, and sometimes I think, "this approach with e.g. the introduction, is that just for my sake isn't it? Is that like stapling on the top left?"

It's application season so here's a question:
If you are in a PhD program and have a "fellowship year" or more than one, how does that work and what do you do during it?

(We do not, which means you're working as a TA or something the whole time).

For instance, some places have funding packages setup such that you wouldn't be required to work during the coursework period of the degree--this would surely yield a different relationship to !

It feels like modern philosophy focuses on , as primary approacch to , approach to knowing, is that reasonable?

Or is this a USA/Anglophone approach and so-called is different?

I do notice seem written in much more poetic ways than anglophone .

teachers:
Say you are teaching a class at the 3rd year level that is open to any student but mostly populated by majors/honours students.

If you assign a reading of about 25 pages, how long do you expect students to take to complete it?

Nice to see Jonathan Jenkins Ichikawa's review of Tom Dougherty's "Scope of Consent" now out in Mind:

academic.oup.com/mind/advance-

Had a really good time reading this with a small group at Michigan in the summer, will interesting to compare Jonathan's review to that from Elise Woodward once it's out in Ethics.

Other things being equal I found Dougherty's book *interesting* but not necessarily convincing. Often had different intuitions than those being pumped.

Have noticed that some academics care a great deal about various "X Review of Books" and "X Literary Supplement" magazines.

Does anyone have a story about the role of these culturally? Who do these publications tend to speak to? I didn't really realize they existed until very specific genre of professor asked if I'd read an essay in a recent issue and wondered "what is this and am I supposed to be reading them too???"
