Why isn't it standard to put the DOI when citing academic papers? Links don't even have to take up page space, just make each bibliography entry a clickable link. What are DOIs even for if I still have to search for the title anyways?

- Publish in non-predatory, peer-reviewed, open venues. The ACL Anthology is a sterling example of this, hosting content not only from ACL events but also many other venues in computational linguistics/NLP.
- Explore anonymous preprints for papers under review. OpenReview does some of this. It could do more. ArXiv could allow anonymous preprints, too.
- Continue to use preprints but with clear indication of the status of the paper.
- Use careful citational practices, always indicating the publication venue for something, even if it is also found on arXiv. (This takes more effort than it should, not least because Google Scholar privileges arXiv in its results.)"

I've promised myself that this is my last first authored paper in a journal by a big for-profit publisher. I cannot participate in this shameful transfer of public funds to private profits anymore. #OA is just their next golden goose.

It's a shame, as eg. the editorial staff and community at PSJ are phenomenal. I just wish they and other editorial staff doing careful and loving work would take back control over their journals. The tools are out there.

Just looked at the website of a new journal in agriculture and rural studies.

Judging from the photos, of the 20 people on the board, 19 are men.

The journal claims to have emphasis on several agriculture and rural development topics, including "Farmer’s well-being, rural poverty alleviation and women’s studies".

I guess they don't notice the irony.
