I hiked out to the Poço da Broca today and swam in the cold cold pool. It was a nice and well marked 2-mile trail. The Loriga hostel is really nice. I love little towns like this; one of these winters I'd like to spend a couple of weeks here. #travel #Portugal #RoadTrip #ACarAndNoPlan #photography #nature #mountains

When I reached my destination, I found that the waterfall is a hike of several kilometers and it was rainy and late. So I explored the little town of Loriga, and went to take a look at the hostel. It is in an old school building, and it was €17.50 for a dorm bed, and I took it because I have a tune in my head and some work to finish and this room looked nice.

...I am the only one here.

When I reached my destination, I found that the waterfall is a hike of several kilometers and it was rainy and late. So I explored the little town of Loriga, and went to take a look at the hostel. Well after another long sit by the waves of Cascais, this morning I decided it was time to go. I found a waterfall-looking thing on the map and decided to make it my next waypoint, skipping both the Algarve and the northern forests, as time is short and I have some work to do. I reached the top of the mountains not two minutes before the clouds and took this picture of the valley near Seia just in the nick of time! #travel #RoadTrip #Potrugal #ACarAndNoPlan #Photography #nature #mountains

I've just had one of the most beautiful lunches of my life. I'll post some 360° video later. The restaurant was Furnas do Guincho in Cascais, and the food was also excellent. I'm so thankful that most people consider this weather too cold and I was able to get this outdoor table without reservations. #travel #RoadTrip #ACarAndNoPlan #portugal #photography #lunch #ocean

Well I'm still on the rocky beaches near Cascais, and tonight in addition to the amazing surf I've also seen five shooting stars, and apparently it's the Geminids and I didn't know. Think I might skip the Algarve and just take it easy for a couple days. #Geminids #MeteorShower #Cascais #Portugal #travel #ACarAndNoPlan

I can't get 360° content to work on Mastodon -- it's 10Gb so it takes forever to process even on YouTube -- but I'm looking forward to seeing it in a headset when I get home. Here is a view of the cliffs of Cascais this morning. Someone asked me recently whether I am for mountains or ocean, and I said mountains without hesitation, but this morning I realized that really what I love is where they meet; no sandy beaches for me, but give me a rocky coastline and I'll be enthralled for hours.

Well, I had to backtrack today for unexpected follow up with my dentist in Madrid. But, that gave me a chance to drive the N-403 and M-501, which was an awesome route, five stars, would drive again. Got back to Ávila just before sunset under fascinating multicolored layers of clouds. I was 8 minutes too late to climb the walls, which was a real bummer, but I guess it's always good to have a dream for the future.
