Folks at #ACC2023, check out my talk this afternoon (June 2) to learn about belief oscillations in social systems! In this work we study a nonlinear model of belief formation. We find sufficient conditions for social interaction-driven and belief system-driven oscillations.

We also relate qualitative features of these oscillations (e.g. period, relative amplitudes, and relative phases of individual beliefs) to spectral properties of signed graphs that represent the social interaction network and the belief system of the group.
