Everybody hate the monilia
Monilia this and monilia that
Nobody hate the computer
Computer is a wicked talking parrot

(...)

Any time I meet a computer
Take it from me confidentially
I'm going to grab the executor
And go jumping into the sea
Because computer tell them this
Computer tell them that
And the officials they all agree
Computer tell them the devil knows what
And they take the pension from me, yeh! yeh!

Currently, I am hosting the @3dprinting bot. Due to a spam attack, my account has been permanently banned, and the bot is now being hosted on my home network.

I am trying to keep this bot 100% free without donations or costs. And 100% online. But I am in a country with electricity restrictions.

I'll investigate AI support for alt-text and other features. And how I can use through and .

Please shoot me a message if you need anything. Thank you for being part and participating in our community. We would love to do our best to help you enjoy it!

Yesterday I had to use a Windows PC in Chinese. Since all menus have icons, it was surprisingly easier than expected to navigate and figure out a lot of the stuff (I still needed a wee bit of help).

On GNOME/GTK, icons in menus and other controls are somehow considered a bad thing and have been removed from all over the place.

There’s a huge difference in how much easier it is to use systems where controls have icons. It’s even possible to figure it out if you can’t read.

@natsume_shokogami sure developers should feel more empathy, as developers, they have the power to change this and make usable for everyone.

But same thing goes for users, if you have a dollar to spare, you should be donating that, and specifying that your main concern is the lack of proper support on the most famous projects. I will assume that you've already done that, but if you haven't...

Question for blind and low vision people and other users of screen readers:

what are the main obstacles they encounter when browsing the web? That is, the things that they would like those of us who are in charge of them, to fix.

Please boost

I wished there was a better way to construct accessible names in aria/html. Just concatenating references works, but is clumsy. I want something like:

aria-label="(:parent(.name)) by (:parent(.autor)), Duration: (:parent(.duration)) minutes; Difficulty: (:parent(.difficulty))"

The “ is not accessible” discussion wants to get back to the early 2010s.

It’s a signifier, for some users (for example who are dyslexic) it’s easier to type, you need some explanation, like any in-group language. Even accessibility needs explanation.

It’s not a big deal and the energy is better used elsewhere.

is far better than any microblogging service out there. It has all the features that many don't, for example content warnings, editing posts, high character count, post visibility settings per post etc... It's a dream as platform. However -wise I think it still has long way to go. The current default UI feels old-ish and a bit clunky. Thankfully it can be improved by apps and UIs.

Because Mastodon is , I've been able to make changes to my own instance. I've seen lots of different social media UI's since the times of Jaiku and there are good choices that have been forgotten. The hellsite got most of it right and it's been my inspiration in regards to user interface. As a designer and developer I create the UI improvements for myself that I think Mastodon is missing.

Hence, the was born.

There have been lots of suddle changes over the weeks in my instance. Let me present some of these. I'm quite proud of what I have achieved as a designer and developer. My instance is now top notch for me. There is always room for improvement, but it's already like 99.9% there.

I just hope Mastodon itself will get even a pinch of these in the core, some day. Most notably the real numbers for OCD and neurodivergent people, free resizing of the compose box (), one level threads and if one can hope, a bit of white space and minimalism in the design.

In my (rather poor) attempt to create my own document class I was looking for standars and improvements.

For some reason I'm having a lot of trouble setting up proper auto alt-text for mathematical equations, but aside from that I was able to implement general accessibility requirements seamlessly.

Here's reminder that using is not optional here, it's a bare minimum you can do to include people using screen readers.

Big social media failed miserably at that, despite huuuuuge budgets.

We can do better, there is no excuse!
