Thanking @alt_text for reminding me that I forgot to add alt text to my last post (now fixed).
I highly recommend using it.

It is so weird to me that more time and effort isn't put in to making the web more accessible.
By definition a more accessible website;
- is easier understood by machines (or, you know, keep paying for technical SEO audits)
- provides a better user experience for more people (isn't that why you hired UX folk in the first place?)
- creates a larger sales funnel (I hear sales people love a big funnel)
Please, if you use an abbreviation or an Acronym, never asume everybody knows itâs meaning. Explain it if you canât avoid using it. Thank you!

Here's my periodic reminder: alternative text for images is important! It makes your images accessible to people who are blind and provides context for the neurodivergent (like me!).
HOWEVER! Writing appropriate alternative text can be very hard, especially if you don't have a lot of practice.
If you see an image missing alt text, don't be a jerk about it.
If you post an image and can't add alt text, don't be a jerk about it.
#Accessiblity and #community go hand in hand. If we're all willing to be a little vulnerable with each other, we can help each other build a space that is accessible for everyone.

there are some talks in the #GodotEngine community about improving #accessiblity of the game engine, for both developers and players
please help me out with making this issue a higher priority by joining in on the discussion in support of accessiblity!

#Today I'm feeling cross because my feed is full of videos I can't understand #accessiblity Things I wish were more accessible to me.
1. I wish All TicToks had subtitles.
2. I wish YouTube shorts had subtitles options.
3. I wish #Mastodon videos had either subtitles or options to open in YouTube with subtitles.
4. I wish links to podcasts included links to transcripts. #AudioProccessingDisability #ActuallyAutistic #ANNOYED

Added another accessibility option to the game, currently not all control nodes have TTS (Text-To-Speech) enabled but it is in the work.

So I work at a Uni that has an annual budget of more than $1Billion.
But here's a thing from a student that came thru today:
"Hello [person X] and Dr. Fountain.
I just tried to fill out the form to swap sections. However, I am unable to do so. I am blind, and the form does not work with my assistive technology. Is there any other way of completing this?
Respectfully
[student]"

Accessibility in games is a MUST, that's why I was working on the first option for it today: Switching between HD Font and Pixelfont

Sure. And ideal design would be driven by #accessiblity with a wide doorless entry/exit like many high-traffic public restrooms have in airports, big venues, etc. Doorless with no-touch hand blowers mounted on the wall at varying heights.
#a11y #accessiblity
Yeah, you can do #AltText in the body of the post. It kind of depends on the type of image, which works best.
For a visual pun, or other fun gag, I like to use #AltText on the image so the text in the toot says one thing, then the image says another.
For example, here I cropped the image so the bear's head doesn't show at first glance (in landscape mode), only with the reveal. https://sfba.social/@Wild/109588862111319155
And with #Accessiblity in mind, using #AltText in the image echoes that.
I would say 90 percent of Instagram and Tumblr are off limits to the Blind and V I / visually impaired communities. While I fully recognize that both platforms are geared solely towards a Visually experience, that still does not excuse the exclusion of me or my fellow community members. Â
I once had an Instagram account as a cross stitcher. Yeah you read that correctly. I cross stitch. It's actually not that difficult to do blind. Not that I am saying it's easy and no I am not suggesting that if another blind person doesn't cross stitch. They're somehow inferior. No! What I am saying is thisâŠ
Sighted people far too often hear the word Blind and an ugly stereotype comes to mind. The first is, the Mr. MAGOO bumbling idiot. How often do you throw around the words / phrases ⊠"What are you blind?" Or "you'd have to be blind not to see that?" When what youâre meaning is⊠stupidity or ignorance. Â
This is ableism in its purest form. Yet the most acceptable kind. Imagine if you will the term Blind was exchanged with another disability / marginalized group? What would happen then? I will let you the reader fill in those words In this experiment. I think you are starting to see my point.Â
So, why is it simply accepted that I should just say, OK, Instagram and Tumblr are not made for me. So, let me sit on the sidelines and watch everyone else have fun. I have to ask my sighted husband to re-blog something or like something on one of those apps and then be my eyes. If more people implored AltText over there, I would not need him to do that. So, again we as a blind community fight another beast, and one day hopefully we won't have to fight. Â
