Over on Twitter, "Google Authenticator" is trending, presumably because the announcement that you must pay for Twitter Blue to use SMS for 2-factor authentication.

While using an authenticator app or security key is more secure than SMS, SMS is better than not having 2FA. And it's not clear people will set up an app or buy a key to keep their account secure.

(It did remind me to remove my phone number from my Twitter account).

Weird. The cyber security lady on the phone to my mum about her Gmail account hung up when I wanted to chat about cyber security stuff and account security. How rude.

Other things that make little kittens cry: **Security service vendors** who enforce a "maximum of 40 characters" password policy AND limit special chars to an arbitrary array of "whatever some drunk coder came up with". Come on, we're not living in the 80s anymore. Your backend can handle more than **one seventh** of a tweet (or less than one twelfth of a toot ).
