There had been a church on this site since 1720, and buried its graveyard are a number of Glasgow's Tobacco Lords, including Andrew Buchanan and John Glassford, who made a fortune from trading tobacco grown on slave plantations in what is now the state of Virginia in the USA.

Saint David's Parish Church in the Merchant City area of Glasgow.

More commonly known as the Ramshorn Kirk, it was built in 1824 by architect Thomas Rickman in the Gothic Revival style.

Today's animal from Glasgow's architecture is this regal-looking eagle from the Langside Battlefield Memorial in Langside. The memorial was designed in the 1880s by Alexander Skirving and sculpted by James Young.

Love all the curves on this ironwork over a side door to the former Govan Town Hall in Glasgow. Built in 1901, the rest of the building is Beaux-Arts in style, but this seems much closer to Art Nouveau and is at odds with the rest of the ironwork.

Another great example of how to sympathetically fill in the gap left by the demolition of a tenement building. This one comes from Novar Drive in the west end of Glasgow and was built in the mid-1990s.

The Briggait and the Merchant's Steeple at sunset on Sunday.

While the Briggait is relatively new (only having been built in the 1870s), the steeple is much older. It was built in the 1660s as part of the long-gone Merchant's House.

Govan Old Parish Church and Graveyard, Glasgow.

This is a place that's always worth a visit. Great neogothic architecture, some fantastic old gravestones with lots of interesting symbols on them, and even a dragon hidden on one of the walls (if you can manage to spot it!).
