It has its own story, it pays homage to the original but doesn't feel the need to recreate, beat for beat, scenes from the original. Unlike other decades later sequels have done.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

Making Farkus into a cop was an inspired choice but I'd have accepted Santa being real before believing that he was a repentant nice guy.

Hopefully they rectify this in "A 'A "A Christmas Story" Story' Story"

Also watched #AChristmasStoryChristmas which I think was a really damn good sequel. I mean, it couldn't have been worse than the last attempt at a direct sequel, but I think it managed to capture the spirit of the original and it felt like a natural continuation of the characters

Got around to watching #AChristmasStoryChristmas and I really liked It, even as a nostalgia trip as It may be, it gives back a sense of care for the audience that most Christmas flicks don't, and Its a midwest Christmas and you can't hate that 7/10.

Late to the party, but "A Christmas Story Christmas" is actually pretty entertaining. Not annual viewing probably, but a pleasant couple hours. #achristmasstorychristmas   

We just watched #AChristmasStoryChristmas on #HBOMax and it’s not outstanding but it’s better than the reviews would have you believe. And the ending is PERFECT.

Okay, so I watched #AChristmasStoryChristmas with my wife tonight. A few notes:
- This movie is more for the adults who grew up on #AChristmasStory than for the kids.
- It's funny
- A lot of it serves as a love letter to the original film & the late Darren McGavin
- I absolutely cried at parts

#AChristmasStoryChristmas is great. It manages to retain the humor, heart, and feeling of the original without simply rehashing it. It achieves a good balance between nods to the original and new ideas. Highly recommended!
