Yesterday was good fun. I was nerdsniped by another Slashdotter who wanted to play The Crystal Rainforest. That led to me patching Arculator 2.2 to add weak-sector emulation. Of course that wasn't enough, so I ended up reverse-engineering the entire copy protection scheme.

I can now run Crystal Rainforest from the hard drive, no disks needed, and I can change the username text on the shame-screen :)

One nicely washed RISC PC motherboard. All the green corrosion in the RAM slots has washed off nicely. Next step is drying, then booting it off of a set of RO3.60 ROMs abd an ARM710 and checking the diagnostic output. (RO4 doesn't include the diagnostics and RO3 disables them on StrongARM) #acornrisc #riscpc

It's great that the RISC OS 3.71 source code leaked, but it'd be even cooler if the NC-OS source code could fall through a wormhole too. Especially the version for the Bush IBX settop. It'd save me a lot of porting work...! XD #riscos #acornrisc #retrocomputing
