The 2 #Democrats on the court pushed back against the #Republican majority's decision & characterization of the case. In their dissenting opinion, Justice Anita Earls said that through the earlier ruling that's now vacated, "a Democratic-controlled Court carried out its sworn duty to uphold the state constitution's guarantee of free elections, fair to all voters of both parties."

NC's highest court has overruled itself, overturning an earlier decision in a congressional #redistricting lawsuit, throwing into question the case's status at #SCOTUS….

In an opinion released Fri, the majority of the state court said that there is "no judicially manageable standard by which to adjudicate partisan #gerrymandering claims" & courts "are not intended to meddle in policy matters."
