But....hmmm....what if the millions on #Threads becomes too big to ignore in the #fediverse? What if we here _want_ to follow them many of them there?

In that case, the mere act of following a user there exposes whatever I say to that federated user to #Meta -- which (clearly) can not be trusted.

If #ActivityHub isn't meant to be a walled garden, there's plenty for #Meta to pillage.

I've spun up an Akkoma instance as a test base. Ignore any follows from it for now. I might move across later, but at the moment I'm not planning to just yet.

Imagine if the browser wars of the late 90s resulted in Netscape and Microsoft each having their own version of HTML protocols. So each new website would have to decide which universe they wanted to be in before designing their site, and could only link to other sites in the Netscape Internet or the Explorer internet. That's where we are today with social media. It's a hellscape.

Looking for a #Fediverse instance that supports optional #Metatags in #Fotos

Backgrond: All embedded metatags including titel, author and copyright are forcibly removed once you upload any image on #Mastodon or even #Pixelfed. Privacy is the main reason given, but I need this this to be OPTIONAL. All images can be freely downloaded from Fediverse instances. .
But as a #photographer who has seen a lot of commercial abuse (image theft by companies) I want to embed my contact inormation into images, as it is usual by #Standard. AFAIK #ActivityHub allows metadata, but instances and apps don't support it.

Any recommandation?

I am getting the hang of #ActivityHub and also the federated nature of this environment - and I do really like it. Is there (and I am sure there is) a way to visualise the #Fediverse with the various instances and how busy they are - a form of the state of the fediverse?

@akifkoker I wondered the same thing. Also new here. As far as I know being on this TechHub server we follow this servers rules, and also natively connect with other tech inspired members. But we still have access to reach users on other public servers (I think due to an #ActivityHub feature). Still learning but so far I don’t think it makes sense to have multiple accounts. Check my understanding: When I “toot” from the mastodon web interface, the server queues a POST via the #ActivityHub protocol to each of my followers.

Ich verstehe es mittlerweile so:
-ActivityHub ist das Protokoll
-fediverse die Verbindung von Protokoll und Konzept
-Mastodon ist eine beispielhafte Protokoll-Implementation, eine fertig nutzbare Server-Software, aber potentiell nur eine von unendlich vielen

Oder hat Mastodon so viele eigene Specs, das es nur untereinander "richtig" läuft?

I believe all these #fediverse projects are based on a protocol on #ActivityHub and I'm guessing are structured similarly, but I'm unsure if a #Mastodon instance can share data with a #Pixelfed instance or if you'd need accounts for each type of social media UI you prefer.

Maybe somebody with a little more #fediverse experience can shed some light.

I remain genuinely and pleasantly shocked that in the course of 10 days or so, we all just went, “no way, eff this, we’re going to @Mastodon”, and now we’re just here and people are so nice and writing alt-text in their images and sharing great stuff and using content warnings and everything. Obviously none of this would have been possible without years of work by #Fediverse / #ActivityHub devs that came before. Even so, this is really something, no? 😃
