Watched the second half of a 22 min video this morning. There was about a minute of the narrator/creator reading out sponsored content (don't mind that too much, they gotta make money).

And then... no 20s later.... THREE ADS in a row. All of them only skippable after 10s or so had already elapsed.

The video ends; another ad.

When YT complains about adblockers.... lol you got greedy 🤷‍♀️ sry not sry

#YouTube hat jetzt auch in Deutschland wohl angefangen Nutzer*innen von #AdBlocker|n zu sperren. Prinzipiell kann ich den Grund ja verstehen, aber der Preis von YT Premium ist halt auch irgendwo witzlos. 10/12€ ist höher als viele "professionellen" Streaming-Dienste mit Eigenproduktionen und ich hab so meine Zweifel, dass das Geld nennenswert bei den #Youtuber|n ankommt. Mal schauen, ob das alternativen Plattformen wie #PeerTube neuen Zulauf beschert.

Einen #AdBlocker zu verwenden, ist nicht nur eine Maßnahme für den #Datenschutz. Vielmehr ist es aktiver #Umweltschutz - bei mir werden über 35% des Traffics durch #pihole geblockt. Alles Daten, die nicht übertragen wurden und damit keinen #Strom verbrauchten.

Thanks @confluency for info that it uses tokens. Has issues, though fewer. One still must trust the third-party won't engage in account takeover actions or network level #tracking/telemetry.

According to a popular #adblocker it does fatech bad cloud(G)lare #telemetry js.

Horrified M'don would endorse untrustable third-parties, but unsurprised.

Anyone else use their #adblocker to cosmetically remove things that aren't ads?

@grishka @tarajdactyl I guess as an #AdBlocker developer I'd create a shadow DOM tree that behaves exactly the same as in a non-blocking browser but runs in a sandboxed environment and is never shown to the user. You then can selectively copy elements to the real DOM tree that is actually displayed and compress the layout if possible.
