Saw the Mountain Goats live with Adeem the Artist last night.. for the second time this summer. Not quite as good as the Omaha show, but still great.

Lawrence KS crowd did not fully appreciate Adeem the way Omaha went wild for them.

Mountain Goats played Going to Georgia, a song known for, among other things, being a song John Darnielle resolutely refuses to play at shows any more. It was epic.

Last night a friend and I went to a Mountain Goats concert, which was a lot of fun! I didn't know most of the songs, but the thing about TMG is that you can still enjoy getting blindsided with lyrics like "We may run out of bullets....We're never gonna run out of hostages."

Anyway, the opener was Adeem the Artist, who is a very fun nonbinary country singer. They turned their song "Going to Hell" into a call and response by instructing the audience to cap the line "Do you really wanna go to heaven?" by shouting "NO" and capping "Do you want to go to hell" with "OKAY."

Though the best part of the song was by far:

"Well, I met the devil at the crossroads and I asked if we could make a deal
He seemed puzzled, so I told him the story, and he said, "None of that shit's real"
It's true I met Robert Johnson, he showed me how the blues could work
But white men would rather give the devil praise than acknowledge a black man’s worth"
