15/ I should have been clearer in distinguishing the #copyright problem from the #adequacy problem.

My primary interest was in the copyright problem (whether there are any copyright obstacles to the creation or free sharing of AI-generated summaries).

But I may have been hasty on the adequacy problem (whether AI summaries of research articles are good enough to be useful).

Vor dem Beschluss muss Executive Order #EO14086 bei den US-Sicherheitsbehörden umgesetzt werden. Die entsprechenden “Procedures” enthalten für NSA (Nr. 4), CIA (Sec. II, G) und FBI (Sec. IV) jedoch die Möglichkeit,  eigenständig von den Vorgaben und dem Schutz der EO14086 abzuweichen.

Eine wirklich verlässliche Aussage, welche Vorgaben für US-Behörden unter dem #DPF nun gelten, ist dadurch (wieder) nicht möglich.

In doing some #privacy training I learned that the #EU has approved international data transfers to #Israel based on #adequacy but that seems strange since Israel's national security laws seem materially similar to those in the US (basically, very few prohibitions on access to data for this purpose). So what gives? How did that happen?

@1br0wn indeed, as the article itself says: "Without an adequacy decision, US agencies and many publicly supported research universities are legally barred from agreeing to #GDPR data-transfer requirements." the problem is the lack of an #adequacy decision, which is down to US surveillance amongst other things...

I don't understand the whole #TikTok debate.

It is clearly violating #COPPA rules in the US and #GDPR in the EU.

Just unleash FTC and DPAs, and it will be shutdown in no-time (or in few years, given the pace these ruling takes place).

I was pleasantly surprised that some of the EP members did point out that the #EU spends a disproportionate effort railing against the #US and utterly ignores many other countries with equally bad/worse records on #surveillance, including some countries with previously-granted #adequacy arrangements.
